| Pied Wagtail | Motacilla alba yarrellii |
Bachstelze Woodwalton Fen NNR, Cambridgeshire. 11.12.2004. Original blog post. On my way to the hides at Woodwalton in search of Bittern, I paused at the entrance to the reserve when I saw this Pied Wagtail dancing about on the roof of one of the buildings. It was a loud crunching sound that alerted me to its presence - the sound of Oak leaves under its feet in the gutter! Presumably it was poking about looking for insects. I like the bright colours here - the algae under the gutter, the orangy-brown leaves and the turquoise of the metal roof. The bird's face got a bit 'bleached' out in the bright sunlight, but you can't have everything.
