Steinschmätzer | Culbianco | Collalba gris | Tapuit Serpentine Brick Pit, Peterborough. 09.09.2004. Original blog post. I was on the verge of leaving for work after a quick visit to Serpentine. I was thinking 'this really looks good for Wheatear… but there aren't any…' when this peachy bird popped up on top of a pile of leftover bricks (perhaps a metaphor for nature reclaiming what's left of the city's brick industry?). I was quite lucky with the light (low and from the east, of course), which caught the bird nicely on its breast. I find Wheatears very appealing birds. They seem to be quite approachable and retain a little bit of 'rarity' value, for me at least. They aren't birds you see every day - they're exciting!
