Southern Hawker

Southern Hawker
Southern Hawker | Aeshna cyanea
Woodwalton Fen NNR, Cambridgeshire. 13.08.2005. Original blog post.

As usual, my visit to Woodwalton coincided with cloud covering up the sun. It was no bad thing, forcing dragonflies like this female Southern Hawker to rest up until the temperature rose, but spotting them perching in the vegetation before they spot you is hard work! They're well camouflaged and it was a case of accidentally flushing the insects and then watching to see where they went.
